Earlier in 2015, one of U.S. agencies found out that to drive down Nitrogen Oxide, Volkswagen Group used a cheat software, called defeat device. When the vehicles were tested for the environmental effects, VW turned ON the device and when the vehicles were put to road, the devices were turn OFF.

The result was really disturbing as then vehicles produced 40 times more Nitrogen Oxide than legally allowed limit in the U.S.

The tests were conducted by Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), a German environmental group, and the results were broadcasted by ZDF, German state broadcaster.
